Why Our Apartments are Sustainable?
1. Solar Panels for Renewable Energy We have invested in solar technology to harness the abundant sunshine of Crete. Our solar panel system has a capacity of 7.5 kW, providing clean and renewable electricity to power our apartments. This reduces our reliance on conventional electricity, helping to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and our carbon footprint. Additionally, we use solar thermal panels to heat water efficiently. By tapping into renewable solar energy, we ensure that hot water is provided sustainably, reducing the need for fossil-fuel-based heating systems. 2. 100% Renewable Energy Supply Our commitment to clean energy extends beyond our solar production. Any additional electricity we need is sourced entirely from renewable energy providers through our contract with DEI (the Public Electricity Company). This ensures that 100% of the power consumed at Room25 Chania is derived from renewable sources, such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric energy. 3. Energy-Efficient Appliances and Lighting We have equipped all of our apartments with A+ energy-rated appliances. These appliances use significantly less energy compared to standard models, helping us reduce overall electricity consumption while maintaining optimal performance. In addition, all lighting fixtures in our apartments use LED technology, which consumes up to 85% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and lasts much longer. This simple yet effective measure further supports our goal of energy efficiency. 4. State-of-the-Art Inverter Air Conditioners To provide guests with optimal comfort while conserving energy, our apartments feature new inverter air conditioners. These systems are highly efficient because they adjust their power output according to the room's cooling needs, consuming up to 30-50% less energy than conventional air conditioners. This helps reduce energy waste and promotes sustainable cooling. 5. Minimizing Plastic Waste We are committed to reducing plastic waste by offering amenities in reusable containers. By eliminating single-use plastics, we minimize waste and contribute to a cleaner environment. 6. In-House Laundry Management We manage our laundry operations on-site to reduce our environmental impact. By washing linens and towels in-house, we have greater control over water and energy use. Additionally, we monitor linen and towel changes to occur every 3 days, or only when needed, reducing unnecessary water and energy consumption. 7. Solar thermal panels, on the other hand, use the sun's heat to warm water directly, significantly cutting down on energy needed for heating. Energy Efficiency Benefits LED Lighting: LEDs are about 80-90% efficient, converting most energy directly into light, unlike incandescent bulbs, which waste a large portion as heat. Inverter AC Systems: Traditional air conditioners operate at fixed speeds, while inverter technology dynamically adjusts cooling power. This helps maintain a stable temperature and reduces energy consumption by eliminating frequent start-stop cycles. Carbon Footprint Reduction By relying solely on renewable energy and using energy-efficient systems, Room25 Chania significantly lowers CO₂ emissions. Here are some key figures demonstrating our impact: Solar Energy Generation: Our 7.5 kW solar panel system generates approximately 10,500 kWh of electricity annually. This reduces CO₂ emissions by about 6.9 metric tons per year, equivalent to planting around 320 trees. LED Lighting: Switching to LED lighting reduces electricity consumption by up to 85%, saving approximately 1,500 kWh annually and reducing CO₂ emissions by about 1 metric ton per year. Inverter ACs: Our inverter air conditioners save around 30% more energy compared to traditional models, leading to a reduction of 2 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually. Laundry Management: By controlling laundry operations in-house and reducing frequency, we save water, energy, and reduce detergent use, helping lower our carbon footprint. In total, these measures help us reduce our carbon footprint by approximately 9.9 metric tons of CO₂ per year.
